Last Time Out vs. Stoke City

Date: 25th July 2017

Where: Bramall Lane

Competition: Friendly

This was the first real test of the Blades steel after gaining promotion from League One earlier that year.

Premier League Stoke City fielded a near full-strength team including Joe Allen, Peter Crouch, Xherdan Shaqiri, Bojan to name just a few. United matched them with a strong line up featuring a couple of the summer signings including Richard Stearman.

United picked up where they had left off in League One, and who else but Billy Sharp to get them off and running sending the Blades 1-0 up going into the break.

Shaqiri then showed his class with a neat finish to level things up. Enter David Brooks, after his impending move on loan to Chesterfield had been quashed by Wilder the starlet was thrust into the first team and given ample time to shine. Brooks repayed Wilder's faith almost immediately with a classy finish to beat Stoke stopper, Lee Grant.

The Blades then comfortably played out the remainder of the game - keeping their 100% win record in pre-season.
